posted Jan 10, 2011, 7:03 PM by Scott Stephens

  • For sailing, replace "is wind good?" with a minimum wind specification, since there is also a max wind for sailing
  • Request a text dump of the full weather forecast, for advanced uses and checking
    • Access: long press on center of dial? Menu item?
    • To free up menu space: move about to end of help view?
  • Tick marks showing sunset/sunrise and twilight times
  • Manual setting of long/lat
    • some way to query location by name etc in android's libraries?
    • manual entry: menu item? another long press?
    • Another line that says: "Location:  <name of place from long/lat>", that if clicked can be set manually?
  • Bug fixes:
    • Show white text on bright green, fix text functions to show black instead

Version 1.0.6

posted Jan 3, 2011, 10:53 AM by Scott Stephens

Added pre-Froyo crash reporting via email. I dont know of any crashing, but now there is an easy way to report it w/o the Report button of Froyo (2.2) and beyond

Version1.0.3

posted Dec 3, 2010, 9:24 AM by Scott Stephens   [ updated Dec 3, 2010, 10:46 AM ]

Bugs fixed
  • asking for details on conditions change when they never change (>168hrs)
  • touching the screen for extra weather data after an unsuccessful download
Features added
  • Change some labels to white when on dark backgrounds (red, etc)
In future versions:
  • Put weather download in its own thread, to keep simultaneous draw from being sluggish
    • Once had a freeze timing out on download too... anything to do about that?
  • Reduce weather download size
  • Select between wind gust and sustained, use latter as default for sailing
  • Out of beta soon...

Version 1.0.2

posted Nov 5, 2010, 9:45 PM by Scott Stephens   [ updated Nov 23, 2010, 10:23 AM ]

Bugs fixed
  • Initial startup combined with rotating the screen crash -- fixed
  • Current conditions were off in time up to 2 hours -- fixed
Features added
  • Get detailed conditions by touching clock or summary text
In next version:
  • There is a bug when asking for details on conditions change when they never change (>168hrs), that will be fixed in next version
  • Put weather download in its own thread, to keep simultaneous draw from being sluggish
    • Once had a freeze timing out on download too... anything to do about that?
  • Reduce weather download size
  • Change some labels to white when on dark backgrounds (red, etc)
  • Select between wind gust and sustained, use latter as default for sailing

Version 1.0.1

posted Nov 3, 2010, 10:22 PM by Scott Stephens   [ updated Nov 4, 2010, 8:43 AM ]

Bug fix: weather server only worked for western US! If you were in the central or eastern US, you would have gotten a "force close" while downloading weather data the first time (Sorry about that!)
Now call main weather.gov server, tested at multiple points in US (and outside: should tell you if the weather is not valid now)
Bug noticed (mild, TODO): When starting first time, help is shown. If you rotate the phone during that time it might crash. This doesnt happen during normal usage, just during the first run. Will be fixed in next version
Features to add: Would like a capability where you can click on some future time and find out weather details, and details on why a time might not be good. Maybe some popup or extra summary lines at the bottom?

Version1.0.0 released

posted Nov 2, 2010, 10:01 PM by Scott Stephens

First beta is released.
Since the weather is downloaded from the US National Weather Service, the location is restricted to just the US (havent tested what longitudes/latitudes outside of the US will still work yet)
This build was tested on an Original Droid and an HTC Incredible, both running Froyo/2.2. Since both of these screens are relatively large (=high pixel density), I'm curious if there are any problems on different screen types.
